Traders and residents in Thika have commended police officers for strengthening security and fostering closer relations with the community, noting that the improved safety has enhanced business operations and restored confidence among investors and customers.
The praise was expressed during a colourful appreciation and farewell ceremony held in honour of outgoing Thika Sub-County Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi and officers serving within the sub-county.

The event, organised by members of the business community, brought together traders, residents and local leaders in a celebration marked by music, entertainment and nyama choma as participants acknowledged the efforts made by police officers in combating crime and maintaining order in the bustling town.
Speaking during the occasion, Thika District Business Association (TDBA) Chairman Alfred Wanyoike applauded the cordial working relationship between security officers and residents, saying the cooperation had played a key role in reducing cases of theft, pickpocketing and other criminal activities that previously disrupted businesses.
Wanyoike observed that enhanced security had created a more favourable environment for trade and investment, allowing business people to operate with greater confidence and fewer disruptions.
He urged traders and residents to continue collaborating with security agencies by sharing information that could help prevent crime and preserve peace within the town and surrounding areas.
The business leader also appealed to the incoming police leadership to sustain the spirit of community policing and maintain close engagement with residents in order to strengthen public trust and improve security further.

Outgoing Sub-County Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi expressed gratitude to the residents and traders for supporting the police during his tenure, saying the partnership between the public and law enforcement officers had enabled faster response to incidents and contributed significantly to the reduction of crime in Thika and neighbouring areas.
Muchangi noted that effective policing could only succeed through cooperation between the community and security agencies, adding that the support accorded to officers by residents had greatly assisted in maintaining law and order.
He encouraged the incoming police commander to continue nurturing strong ties with the public to ensure sustained peace and stability in the sub-county.
During the ceremony, traders and residents presented gifts to Muchangi in recognition of his service and leadership during his three-year tenure as Thika Sub-County Police Commander.
Muchangi has been transferred to Nyeri where he will serve as Deputy County Police Commander, while John Kimanthi takes over as the new Thika Sub-County Police Commander.
