Land grabbing and succession disagreements has left many people fighting, killing and injuring each other’s while others spend a lot of resources in court with endless those cases.
In Nderi village in Kikuyu constituency in Kiambu, a businessman, is an example of such scenario where he is spending a lot of time in court and tribunals, as he follows up on his alleged grabbed land.
He claims that someone grabbed his land, soon after he bought it and later opened a bar.
Lawrence Muniu yesterday said he bought a piece of land which had been subdivided into plots from a society in the area, but one of plots was grabbed.
He claims that his efforts to reclaim it has not been fruitful.
He reveals that, he sued the alleged grabber at a tribunal court, where he was ordered to move out.
“This person has refused completely to move out of my land. One wonders if we have laws in this country and why do some people disobey them. I had even acquired an eviction order, but it was not fruitful since the grabber is still occupying my land without fear” Muniu said.
Muniu is now raising concern of the liquor business the grabber has allegedly started in the middle of the village.
He said the move was deliberate disregard President William Ruto’s directive on how and where the bars are supposed to be operated.
He claims that the bar in his land is selling illicit alcohol and other drugs which need to be investigated.
On Thursday of week, Muniu wrote a protest letter to Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi asking him take action on the outlet, adding that it was not situated in a shopping center, but inside a village.
He raised concern on the County’s Liquor and Licensing Board on how they approved the bar to be operational in such an environment.
“This is a village, we are not in a shopping center. What picture are we portraying to the society around especially our children, visitors and eve institutions such as schools around?” he wondered.
He also wrote the same letter to Kikuyu sub county administrator, DCC Charles Laboso and the area OCS, asking them close the premises.
Muniu said the customers of the bar have been destroying his iron sheet fence, where they sneak inside and relax there.
“They normally leave shopping bags, empty bottles and other dirty tissues papers in my land. I live in another farm, but I get shocked when I visits this farm” he said.
“I want the bar to be closed since it’s started illegally in a grabbed land and then, it has not met the standards required to operate. Later, I will continue to reclaim the land until these people move out” Muniu said.
