Three men convicted of escaping from lawful custody have each been sentenced to 15 years in prison under Section 4(1) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Delivering the sentence, Kahawa Law Courts Principal Magistrate Gedion Kiage found that the three convicts committed the offence, saying the prosecution had presented credible evidence to prove the case.
The court further heard that the convicts were aided by prison warders to escape from Kamiti Maximum Prison.
The first accused, Musharaff Abdala alias Swaitar, will serve the 15-year sentence from the date of his acquittal in High Court Criminal Appeal Number 117 of 2025.
The second accused, Abikar, will begin serving the sentence after completing his previous prison term.
The third accused, Joseph Juma Odhiambo, will similarly serve the 15-year sentence upon completion of the previous terms he is currently serving.
The ruling comes as the three men remain subject to separate custodial sentences arising from their previous convictions.
