A couple is being locked at Lari police station in Kiambu county for allegedly beating up their 7 years old son until he died.
Lari sub county police commander Emily Ngaruiya said the couple is alleged to have committed the offence on Wednesday at their rental house in Karia-ini village in Lari Scheme location in Lari Kirenga ward.
The OCPD said it was reported that, after the beating, the mother of the boy decided to take him to Lari level 4 hospital, since he had sustained injuries all over his body.
However, on arrival at the health facility, the boy died even before seeing a doctor.
The police commander added that, doctors at the hospital called them and a team of officers shortly arrived to start investigations.
“That boy had injuries he sustained from the whips and sticks the parents were using to assault him with” she said.
She added that the reason of the beating was not immediately established, adding that it will be established after the investigations.
The police boss also revealed that once the Lari DCI officers finalises their investigations, the couple will be arraigned in court to face charges.
A Karia-ini village resident Simon Kimani said the couple are from Western part of the country who have rented a house in the area.
Kimani however, condemned the incident adding that they have never heard of such an incident of child abuse until a child passes on.
Voice of Men Children Network national chairman Bishop James Njenga condemned the incident saying the action taken by the government was good saying those parents need to be jailed so that other parents can learn from them.
“There are so many children who are suffering silently in the villages and the estates we are living in and their parents feels that they will never be known. This is sad. We want the society to know that even children have rights and their rights need to be respected” Njenga said.
