Women from Lari constituency in Kiambu county have applauded a former banker for her continued support to the community.

They noted that they have been overwhelmed by the distributing of school uniforms to the needy learners in all primary schools which are nowadays known as comprehensive schools.

Led by Lillian Nyambura who is parent from Kibagare comprehensive school, who said that when their children started receiving them, they thought it was a non governmental organization which was doing it.

Nyambura who lives in Kibagare village in Lari Kirenga ward, revealed that they were surprised Josephine Miano’s move of supporting them.

She that Miano has shown the meaning of love and care towards the community.

“To be sincere, women have been touched by Miano’s concern over our children going school. They are discussing her every day” Nyambura said.

Nyambura added that, learners who benefited with the uniform have never wanted to be absent in class.

“The children who benefited with the uniform are always eager to see Miano coming to school to check on them again. They have never been absent” she said.

Another parent Beatrice Njoki from Kambaa primary school said learner’s are motivated to work harder when they are supported with items such as pencils, pens, rubbers and exercise books.

Njoki also adds that, Miano has touched parent’s hearts since a lot of their children were attending school with tattered uniforms and times others without.

“Most of us rely on casual jobs and at times they are not available. We are forced to live with the little money we earn. We budget for the basic needs” she said.

“We pay school fees in installments, uniform becomes a challenge and our kids ends up attending classes using a uniform for many years until it’s tattered” Njoki reveals.

Miano who has distributing unform to learners from the needy families for many years, has declared to run Lari MP seat.

The former banker says she was driven to start supporting the community by the poverty that has pulled the community back, leaving so many families failing to offer children quality education.

Miano revealed that she has crisscrossed the constituency several times and realised that there is a chance of changing people’s perception towards education as the war towards ending poverty.

“If we motivate our community towards education, we shall instill some positive attitude to our children of seeing education is the key to excellence” she said.

A resident from Kibathithi in Kamburu ward Jason Mburu urged locals to consider supporting Miano in her ambition of becoming an MP.

Mburu urged locals to consider electing an individual but not a party during next year’s general elections.

“If Miano will be lucky to have a ticket of a party that is popular in Mt Kenya region, then that party will be lucky, but if she will not be in a popular party, we will still elect her.” he said.

“We have been overwhelmed by her relationship to locals, the love of our children and her approach to issues. She is also an approachable person” Mburu added.
