Uhuru Rallies Kiambu Delegates, Backs Matiang’i for 2027 Presidency

Former President and Jubilee Party Leader Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kiambu delegates to fully back the party and ensure upcoming internal elections are free and fair, aiming to solidify Jubilee’s dominance in the vote-rich county.

Speaking to over 5,000 delegates from across Kiambu’s 12 sub-counties at the Kiambu Golf Club, Uhuru noted that because the party’s foundational roots are in the county, it has the potential to turn the entire region into an exclusive Jubilee (‘red party’) zone—provided members align with its agenda and policies.

The former Head of State expressed his willingness to support the party and eventually step down from its leadership once it stabilizes. He also took the opportunity to fire back at political rivals who have questioned his continued involvement in politics during his retirement.

“Those people from Kenya Kwanza have always asked why I didn’t surrender this party and focus on my retirement. But they are the ones who brought trouble into Jubilee and wanted to auction it from within, which I could not allow,” Uhuru stated to a cheering crowd, adding that he is now confident the party is in safe hands.

Uhuru threw his weight behind his preferred successor, former Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, promising to support his bid for Kenya’s sixth presidency. He expressed absolute confidence that the leadership team—comprising himself, Dr. Matiang’i, and Secretary-General Moitalele Ole Kenta—is the best combination to deliver victory for Jubilee in Kiambu and the country in general.

A composed Uhuru emphasized that he will strictly back democratically elected candidates, promising to walk with them to ensure a clean sweep of all elective seats in the region.

Local leaders present at the function strongly defended the former President against critics who argue he should stay out of national politics. They maintained that as a two-term former Head of State, he is uniquely qualified to address the issues affecting Kenyans.

Led by the party’s Director of Elections and former Murang’a Senator, Kembi Gitura, the leaders asserted that Uhuru has an absolute right to advise the nation without constraints.

“Let them get this clear: Uhuru is here to stay and will move around this country without asking for anyone’s permission. He is our party leader and will continue to give us direction on the path ahead,” Gitura declared
