Kanu Boss Calls on Branch Officials to Promote the Party Nationally

THE Kenya African National Union (KANU), Kenya’s independence party, is undergoing a strategic revival aiming to reclaim its role as a national political force.
Mt.Kenya regional chairman Njunge Mukirae has since urged party branch officials to embark on an aggressive promotion campaign across the country.
The chairman says that the former formidable party is destined for absolute revitalization calling upon its branch officials to embark on promoting it ahead of the scheduled registration of new members.
“We want to ensure that as we head to 2027, the party becomes a force to reckon with. We want to either form the next government or be part of it”, he said in Kikuyu during a meet the people tour.
Mukirae said that the story of KANU’s revival is a deliberate effort to rebrand from its reputation as a former one-party, restrictive regime
Instead, it is projecting itself as the “Chama cha Wananchi” (Party of the People) or “Karibu Nyumbani” (Welcome Home).
Led by Gideon Moi, KANU is leveraging its 60+ year history and existing, though dormant, rural network to make a “bold and strategic return,” emphasizing unity and national stability.
By moving past the repressive memories of the 1982-1991 one-party era, modern KANU aims to reframe its history, focusing on its role in building the nation rather than the repression that eventually forced Moi to accept multi-party democracy in 1991.
The party is focusing on youth inclusion and development, promising to empower communities and restore political order in a turbulent landscape, positioning itself as a party with deep roots
