In a significant boost to the local education sector, Kiambu Town Member of Parliament, Hon. Machua Waithaka, has unveiled a series of multi-million shilling development projects and bursary distributions aimed at revolutionizing the learning environment within his constituency. Through the strategic utilization of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), the legislator has prioritized infrastructural overhauls and financial inclusivity to ensure that every child in Kiambu has access to quality schooling.

The primary education sector has witnessed an unprecedented facelift, most notably at Karunga Primary School. The institution has undergone a comprehensive renovation process that has seen the modernization of existing classrooms, which now feature high-quality tiled flooring to enhance hygiene and comfort. To bolster security and provide a sense of prestige for the learners, the MP’s office has overseen the construction of a modern gate and a robust perimeter wall. The final phase of this transformation is currently underway with the installation of cabro paving across the school compound, starting from the main entrance, ensuring a mud-free and dignified environment for students returning from their April holidays.

A similar wave of development has reached Mungai Chengecha Primary School, where the construction of six brand-new classrooms has been successfully completed. These units, also fitted with tiles to ensure durability and a superior learning atmosphere, were designed specifically to tackle the long-standing challenge of classroom congestion. By expanding the physical capacity of the school, the NG-CDF initiative seeks to provide a more conducive space for pupils to focus on their academic excellence without the distractions of overcrowding.

Beyond physical infrastructure, Hon. Waithaka has made a decisive move to secure the academic future of thousands of students through a massive financial injection. During a transparent public exercise held at the Ndumberi Sports Ground, the MP disbursed a total of Sh64,715,915 in bursary cheques. This substantial fund is set to benefit 13,141 learners across various levels of education, including day secondary schools, boarding institutions, and centers of higher learning. The selection process specifically targeted the most vulnerable members of the community, including orphans and students living with disabilities, to ensure a 100 percent transition rate and prevent dropouts caused by financial hardship.

During the issuance ceremony, the legislator reaffirmed his commitment to a fair and non-discriminatory distribution of resources, noting that the only requirements for the bursary are residency and voter registration within the constituency. He further emphasized that day secondary education within Kiambu Town Constituency remains entirely free of charge, a policy intended to alleviate the economic burden on parents. Under the banner of his “Yangu Ni Kazi Tu” philosophy, Hon. Waithaka maintained that his administration would continue to focus on tangible results that reflect the true promise of development for the people of Kiambu.
