Police in Thika West Sub-County have launched a massive manhunt for a 22-year-old suspect who dramatically escaped from lawful custody in broad daylight today at Thika Level 5 Hospital.
The fugitive, identified as James Wambua Kyalo, was being held under the guard of two officers from Githurai Mwiki Police Station. He had been arrested on December 5 for attempted robbery with violence.
Details of the Escape
According to the police report, the escape occurred at approximately 2:00 PM. The two officers guarding Kyalo reported that he mysteriously vanished while being served lunch on his hospital bed, without raising any alarm.
Preliminary accounts suggest that Kyalo may have slipped out through the back compound gate near the mortuary. He was last seen running across the main road in the direction of Mukiriti Market.
Following the disappearance, hospital staff and police officers conducted a frantic search of the facility, but no trace of the escapee was found.
A massive search operation is currently underway. Regular Police and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives at Githurai Police Station have been notified and are involved in the joint effort to re-apprehend Kyalo.
