Kiambu Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha has stepped up efforts to support vulnerable children through the provision of essential supplies to a home caring for children with physical disabilities in Githunguri Constituency.
The National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), under the leadership of Ms Wamuratha, visited the PCEA Kambui Woman’s Guild Home for Physically Challenged Children in Ngewa Ward, where it donated a range of items aimed at improving the welfare, comfort and dignity of the children.
The supplies included mattresses, blankets, sanitary towels, beans, rice and biscuits, which are expected to help address some of the institution’s basic needs and enhance the well being of the children under its care.
The intervention highlights the importance of partnerships between public institutions and community based organisations in supporting vulnerable groups, particularly children living with disabilities who require specialised care, attention and support.
Ms Wamuratha said the initiative was part of the fund’s commitment to improving the lives of disadvantaged members of society, with a focus on ensuring that children in care institutions have access to essential supplies and a dignified living environment.
The PCEA Kambui Woman’s Guild Home provides care and support to children with physical disabilities, offering a safe environment for their daily needs.
The donation is expected to ease some of the institution’s immediate requirements, while providing relief to caregivers responsible for the children’s day to day welfare.
Children living with disabilities often face additional challenges in accessing basic services, healthcare, education and other opportunities. Support from public institutions, community organisations and well-wishers remains critical in helping address these challenges.
The NGAAF initiative seeks to promote social inclusion and improve the quality of life of vulnerable individuals and households through targeted interventions.
The visit also underscored the need for sustained support for institutions caring for children with disabilities, whose needs extend beyond food and bedding to include medical care, assistive devices, rehabilitation and access to education.
Ms Wamuratha’s office said the initiative reflected its commitment to ensuring that vulnerable children are not left behind in the pursuit of better living conditions and opportunities.
“Every child deserves love, dignity, care and an opportunity to live a better life,” the office said in a statement, reaffirming its commitment to supporting vulnerable members of the community.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen community welfare programmes in Kiambu County, with the NGAAF continuing to support groups facing social and economic challenges.
The fund’s interventions are intended to complement existing government programmes by reaching individuals and institutions requiring additional assistance.
For the children at the PCEA Kambui Woman’s Guild Home, the donated supplies offer immediate relief while reinforcing the importance of compassion, inclusion and collective responsibility in caring for those who need support most.
