Parents of students at Kiambu High School are demanding urgent intervention from the Cabinet Secretary for Education following the overnight demolition of a 45-metre section of the school’s perimeter wall.
The parents say the incident has exposed learners to security risks, particularly as candidates sit their national examinations, and are calling for swift government action to resolve the stalemate surrounding the school’s boundary.
Angry parents gathered at the institution following the destruction, which reportedly occurred at around 3 a.m., leaving construction materials scattered across the site.
The parents say the wall was being constructed using their contributions to strengthen security and prevent intruders from accessing the school compound through the surrounding bush.
Parent-Teachers Association Chairman Laban Ogusi said the demolition had dealt a major financial blow to parents who had sacrificed their resources to safeguard their children.
The destruction also disrupted construction work, with more than 70 skilled and unskilled workers reportedly sent home.
The parents are now calling on Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba to intervene urgently, insisting that the dispute must not be allowed to compromise the safety of learners or disrupt the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations.
They have also expressed frustration over what they describe as delays in deploying adequate security following the incident, demanding immediate action from the relevant authorities.
The demolition is suspected by school representatives to be linked to a longstanding boundary dispute involving neighbouring property owners. The school maintains that its boundary was established using official survey beacons, while the competing claims remain a matter requiring verification.
With 1,650 students enrolled at the institution, the parents say the continued stalemate is unacceptable and are urging the national government, the Kiambu County Commissioner and Governor Kimani Wamatangi to help secure the school and facilitate a lasting resolution.
They insist that the government must move with speed to establish the facts surrounding the demolition, protect the school property and ensure that the disputed boundary does not become a source of further confrontation.
The parents say they will continue demanding accountability until concrete action is taken, adding that the safety of their children and the completion of the security wall cannot be left hanging indefinitely.
