Mount Kenya University (MKU) has once again demonstrated its sporting excellence, emerging as one of the standout institutions at the Kenya Universities Sports Federation (KUSF) Nairobi North Conference League.
In what has been widely regarded as one of the most competitive editions of the university league in recent years, MKU delivered an impressive performance following seven months of intensive preparation marked by discipline, resilience, and unwavering determination.
MKU’s outstanding organization and sportsmanship were recognized through several prestigious awards including Best Private University, Best Host University, Most Punctual University and 1st Runners-Up Overall Winning University.

The University’s overall performance reflects consistent competitive dominance across events. This places the institution among the most successful institutions in the league, demonstrating both depth and consistency across individual and team sports.
The university showcased its athletic depth by clinching championship titles across multiple sporting categories. The teams raked in 10 titles across diverse disciplines including 3×3 Basketball (Men & Women), Woodball (Men & Women), Taekwondo (Women), Table Tennis (Women), Karate (Men), Darts (Men) and Badminton (Men & Women).
The University also delivered strong performances with second-place finishes (8) in Basketball (Men), Athletics (Men & Women), Karate (Women), Swimming (Men & Women), Table Tennis (Men) and Tennis (Women).

Additionally, the university secured third-place finishes (9) in: Basketball (Women), Football (Women), Hockey (Men), Netball (Women), Volleyball (Men), Chess (Men), Darts (Women) and Scrabble (Men & Women).
Speaking after the competition, Mr. William Luta, Head of Sports, Creative and Performing Arts at MKU and Secretary of the Nairobi North Conference, lauded the athletes for their dedication.
“This was a highly competitive league. Seven months of hard work, determination, sacrifice, and relentless effort have finally paid off. Congratulations to Mount Kenya University and all the awardees,” he said.
MKU Dean of Students, Dr. Emmanuel Owour, also expressed immense pride in the students’ achievements and reiterated the institution’s commitment to nurturing talent.
“These results affirm our commitment to supporting sports development as an integral part of student growth and excellence,” he noted.
Other universities also recorded notable performances. Kenyatta University were the overall winners while Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) were ranked third overall.
Mama Ngina University College were the most improved instituon in the competitions, JKUAT were declared the most disciplined while St Paul’s University clinched the Best Fair Play award.
Beyond podium finishes, the KUSF Nairobi North Conference League celebrated the resilience, teamwork, and rising competitive standards of university sports in Kenya.
As Mr. Luta asserts, the league was not just about victories, but about “the spirit of perseverance and unity that continues to shape the future of university sports.”
