Limuru Police Station is a major law enforcement hub in Kiambu County, Kenya. On October 14, police arrested five men linked to serious offenses involving violent robbery and gang rape.

Following their arrest, police presented them in court on October 15, where magistrates granted investigators a 14-day custodial remand to complete their inquiries. The suspects were slated to return to the Limuru Law Courts on November 5 to formally take their pleas.

However, just before their scheduled court appearance, the suspects staged a violent escape during a routine cell movement in the early morning hours.

A massive manhunt is underway in Limuru Sub-County after five suspects facing charges of violent robbery and gang rape forcefully broke out of Limuru Police Station in the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to an official police report, five out of seven suspects were being held inside an inner male cell when the officer in charge of the night shift report office and the cell sentry opened the door to transfer them.

Taking advantage of the cell opening, five of the suspects attacked the duty officers, overpowered them, and fled the premises. The assaulted officers sustained injuries during the struggle and subsequently complained of chest and stomach pains.

The five escaped suspects, all under the age of 35, have been identified as Moses Waswa, 34 Simon Eshiwani, 35 Dedan Kariuki, 35 Daniel Ndichu Njoroge, 22 and Edward Mureithi, 21

The individuals were initially arrested on October 14. They appeared in the Limuru Law Courts the following day, where investigators were granted a 14-day detention order to complete their investigations before a scheduled plea-taking session on November 5.

Limuru Subcounty Police Commander Mary Njoki Gachie confirmed the incident saying investigations had been launched over the incident saying they will be re arresting the run away fugitives in due course.

” We are investigating this matter and once the investigations are over, the involved culrprits will be apprehended and face the full force of the Law, SCPC Njoki told the Kiambu Observer.

The suspects had been arrested along the Kiambu Karirana Limuru road waylaying unsuspecting people who make stop overs at the Tea Plantations while on their way to and back on the road that has beautiful photo sceneries.
