Kiambu Constituency is witnessing a renewed push in infrastructure development, with several road tarmacking projects and school improvement works underway under the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), in a programme spearheaded by area MP Machua Waithaka.

The projects, spread across different parts of the constituency, are expected to improve transport connectivity, ease movement of residents, enhance learning environments and create employment opportunities for local communities.

Among the ongoing road projects is the 1.1-kilometre Laureate Kasarini–Windsor Road in Thindigua, where the contractor has moved to the site and commenced preliminary works ahead of tarmacking.

Current activities include ground preparation and excavation of drainage trenches to facilitate stormwater management and protect the road from premature deterioration.

Waithaka has directed that local residents be given priority in the recruitment of casual labourers, saying the infrastructure programme should also translate into direct economic benefits for communities hosting the projects.

Meanwhile, the Kasarini–PCEA Road, near Feruzzi Tower in Thindigua, has entered its final implementation stages, with the contractor back on site to complete tarmacking, drainage installations and pedestrian walkways.

The works are expected to improve accessibility while providing safer passage for pedestrians and motorists in the rapidly developing neighbourhood.

In Ting’ang’a, drainage works are underway along the Maii-ni–John Kagai Road following its successful tarmacking. The additional works are intended to control runoff and protect the newly constructed road, particularly during the rainy season.

Another significant intervention is the extension of tarmacking works on the Ruthiruini–Kihingo Road, where construction is progressing beyond the previous project endpoint.

Waithaka said the road had remained untarmacked since Independence, describing its upgrading as a response to a longstanding infrastructure need among residents.

On education infrastructure, Ngegu Primary School has completed the construction of six additional classrooms in a modern two storey block, an intervention expected to ease congestion and provide pupils with a more conducive learning environment.

The school is now undergoing further improvements, including construction of a perimeter wall and installation of cabro paving within the compound to strengthen security, improve accessibility and enhance the learning environment.

The MP said the ongoing works were also providing employment to local residents, enabling communities to benefit economically from development expenditure.

He added that plans were underway to renovate existing classrooms after completion of the current works and the national examinations period.

The school improvements complement the tarmacking of the Ngegu–Edenville Road, which has also been upgraded for the first time since Independence.

The projects underscore the constituency’s focus on addressing infrastructure gaps through improved road networks and investment in education facilities.

Waithaka said his development agenda remained anchored on opening up communities, improving public services and ensuring that government funded projects deliver tangible benefits to residents.
