Police in Kiambu are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 38-year-old veterinary professional following a reported domestic dispute at his rented house in Ndumberi Village.
The deceased, identified by acquaintances as Joseph Gatonye Mwangi, sustained a stab wound to the left side of his chest. His female partner has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Gatonye reportedly died following an altercation at the residence he shared with his partner.
According to the caretaker, Teresia Ngonyo Kihara, the couple had arrived home together shortly before the incident.
The suspect is said to have raised the alarm and sought assistance to rush the injured man to hospital. However, a police officer who was among the first responders confirmed that Gatonye had already succumbed to his injuries upon their arrival.
Police later arrested the suspect as she reportedly walked away from the property towards Ndumberi, averting a possible confrontation with an agitated crowd.
An immediate neighbour, Jane Wambui, described the couple’s relationship as troubled, with frequent arguments reportedly occurring over the past year.
Residents who knew Gatonye described him as a hardworking veterinary professional who enjoyed a positive reputation in the community.
The killing has left residents shocked, with calls for greater awareness and timely intervention in cases of domestic conflict.
Investigators have collected two knives believed to be potential exhibits, alongside bloodstained clothing belonging to the deceased, as they seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The suspect is being held at Ndumberi Police Station as investigations continue ahead of further legal proceedings.
