Kiambu Youth Get New Platform to Turn Singing Talent into Careers

Machua Project Fame seeks to discover, nurture and showcase young musicians in Kiambu Town Constituency as creative economy gains prominence

Young people with singing talent in Kiambu Town Constituency are set to get a major boost following the launch of Machua Project Fame, a new initiative designed to identify, nurture and showcase emerging musical talent.

The programme, organised by the office of Kiambu Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka, targets residents aged between 18 and 35 and seeks to provide a platform through which aspiring musicians can transform their talent into sustainable careers.

The initiative comes at a time when the creative economy is increasingly being viewed as an important source of employment, income and opportunities for Kenya’s youthful population.

Under the programme, talented singers will be identified through a registration and selection process before being given an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and compete for a place in the spotlight.

The organisers are calling on young people who have been singing in churches, schools, social groups, local entertainment venues or privately to come forward and showcase what they can do.

The message to aspiring artists is simple that do not hide your talent.

Registration will run from Monday, August 31 to Friday, September 11, 2026, at the NG-CDF Towers, second floor, between 9am and 4pm.

Applicants will be required to present a copy of their national identity card, a copy of their birth certificate and a copy of their parents’ national identity card.

A death certificate may also be provided where applicable, although this requirement is optional.

In addition, every applicant must submit a 30-second pre-recorded video demonstrating their singing ability.

The competition is restricted to registered voters of Kiambu Constituency, with participants required to be aged between 18 and 35.

The initiative is being positioned not merely as a singing contest but as an avenue through which young people can gain exposure and take their first steps towards professional careers in the music industry.

For many aspiring musicians, lack of access to professional networks, mentorship, recording opportunities and platforms to perform remains a major barrier to turning talent into a livelihood.

Machua Project Fame seeks to bridge part of that gap by bringing emerging artists into an organised talent-discovery programme.

The organisers say the project will provide young people with an opportunity to step out of the shadows and have their voices heard.

The initiative also reflects the growing recognition that the creative sector can play a significant role in addressing youth unemployment by opening opportunities in music, entertainment, production, events management and other related industries.

Beyond the performers themselves, the music industry supports a wider ecosystem involving producers, sound engineers, videographers, photographers, dancers, DJs, promoters, designers and digital-content creators.

The launch of Machua Project Fame gives young singers in the constituency an opportunity to begin building visibility within the competitive entertainment industry.

The programme’s organisers are urging eligible applicants to use the registration period to prepare their best 30-second performances and ensure they meet all the requirements before submitting their applications.

The initiative is also expected to provide a local platform for discovering voices that may otherwise remain unknown despite having significant potential.

With the creative economy receiving increased attention nationally, programmes such as Machua Project Fame could provide a bridge between raw talent and professional opportunity at the grassroots.

For young people who have spent years entertaining friends, congregations, families and local audiences but have never had an opportunity to audition before a formal platform, the competition offers a chance to take the next step.

The project’s slogan, “Shine Like a Star,” captures its central ambition — to identify promising young performers and give them an opportunity to pursue their artistic dreams.

The registration window opens on Monday, with applicants expected at the NG-CDF Towers throughout the two-week exercise.

For Kiambu’s aspiring musicians, the message from the organisers is clear that this is the time to step forward, claim the stage and let the voice be heard.

“Do not hide your talent. Step forward and let your voice be heard.”

With the countdown to registration under way, attention now turns to the young singers who will seize the opportunity and attempt to turn their voices into a career.
