The Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) has intensified its political presence in the Mt Kenya region following the appointment of Jane Kihungi as the party’s regional chairperson, a move aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during the unveiling of the party’s regional office in Kiambu County, Kihungi announced that she will contest the Kiambu Senate seat in 2027 on a DAP-K ticket while spearheading the party’s expansion across the nine counties that make up the Mt Kenya region.

Kihungi said the establishment of the Mt Kenya regional headquarters in Turitu Village, Kiambu Town, marks the beginning of an ambitious recruitment and mobilization campaign that will see the party open branches across the region. She revealed that DAP-K has already initiated structures in all nine counties as it seeks to attract aspirants and supporters ahead of the next election cycle.

“The Democratic Action Party-Kenya is a national party with representation in Parliament and county governments. We have now officially established our presence in the Mt Kenya region, and our mission is to ensure that every county has strong party structures and candidates ready to serve the people,” she said.

Kihungi noted that her appointment as the chairperson of the DAP-K Mt Kenya Region reflects the confidence the party leadership has placed in her to coordinate political activities and strengthen the party’s footprint in a region traditionally regarded as a key political battleground.

She appealed to aspiring leaders seeking elective positions in 2027 to join DAP-K, assuring them that the party will conduct transparent, credible, and fair nominations. According to her, many aspirants often face frustrations after disputed nomination exercises in larger political parties, leading to divisions and defections.

“We guarantee free and fair nominations. Aspirants should not spend years campaigning only to lose opportunities because of flawed nomination processes. Once you secure a party ticket through a transparent process, your focus should be on seeking votes from wananchi,” she stated.

The regional chairperson emphasized that DAP-K is committed to democratic ideals and people-centered leadership, describing the party as one that listens to citizens and promotes inclusivity regardless of ethnic background.

She reiterated that DAP-K is a national and tribe-less party whose vision is to unite Kenyans around issues of development, accountability, and good governance rather than ethnic politics.

Kihungi also conveyed greetings from the party leader, Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, and the party’s deputy leader, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, whom she praised for their commitment to public service and accountable leadership.

She highlighted Governor Natembeya’s governance record in Trans Nzoia, describing him as a leader who closely monitors development projects and ensures prudent use of public resources. She further noted that recent legal challenges facing the governor had been dismissed by the courts, reinforcing confidence among party supporters.

As part of the party’s expansion strategy, Kihungi said DAP-K will establish offices across various constituencies and sub-counties within the Mt Kenya region. The offices will serve as coordination centers for recruitment, political education, and candidate support programmes.

She pledged that the regional leadership will work closely with aspiring candidates by providing guidance, training, and strategic support to help them prepare for the 2027 elections.

Kihungi observed that the Mt Kenya region currently hosts dozens of political parties competing for influence, creating uncertainty among many aspirants. She argued that DAP-K offers a reliable political platform where leaders can pursue their ambitions without fear of manipulation or unfair treatment during nominations.

“We are inviting all leaders and residents of the Mt Kenya region to join us. DAP-K has arrived in the region and is ready to provide an alternative political home for those who believe in fairness, integrity, and service to the people,” she said.

The launch of the Mt Kenya regional office signals DAP-K’s determination to expand beyond its traditional strongholds and position itself as a formidable national political force ahead of the 2027 elections. Political observers view the move as part of broader efforts by the party to penetrate key voting blocs and increase its influence in one of Kenya’s most politically significant regions.

With offices being established across the region and recruitment efforts gathering momentum, DAP-K’s entry into Mt Kenya is expected to reshape political alignments and provide voters with an additional platform as preparations for the 2027 General Election continue.
