Kindiki Pushes Faster Delivery of Lari Road Projects

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has stepped up pressure on contractors implementing major road and market projects in Lari Constituency, directing them to accelerate works and deliver facilities within set timelines.

Dr Kindiki issued the directive on Monday while inspecting the ongoing construction of the Nyambari-Uplands-Kambaa-Githunguri Road, a 15 kilometre road forming part of a wider 53 kilometre network being implemented under a single contract in Lari.

The project also covers the Kagwe-Githunguri and Kagwe-Mung’eero roads, in a programme expected to improve connectivity between communities, markets and economic centres in the constituency.

The Deputy President said the Government was keen to ensure that major infrastructure projects translate into tangible benefits for residents and businesses, while warning contractors against unnecessary delays and poor workmanship.

The Nyambari-Uplands-Kambaa-Githunguri road is expected to ease movement of people and goods and strengthen links between Lari and neighbouring parts of Kiambu County.

The Government has also completed the tarmacking of the Nyambari-Kijabe-Mai Mahiu Road, while plans are in place to upgrade the 11 kilometre Kinale-Kiracha Road.

The projects form part of a wider road development programme being undertaken across Kiambu County, where 1,656 kilometres of new roads are currently under construction at a combined cost of Sh152 billion.

Of this network, 368 kilometres valued at Sh20 billion have already been completed, according to the Government.

The scale of the programme is expected to significantly improve transport infrastructure in the county, which serves as a major link between Nairobi and the Central Kenya region.

At the same time, the Government is proceeding with plans to dual the Rironi-Mau Summit highway, transforming the busy route into a four-lane highway and, in some sections, a sixlane road.

The expansion is estimated to cost Sh20 billion and is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and enhance road safety along one of the country’s key transport corridors.

Dr Kindiki also inspected the ongoing construction of the Nyambari Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Market, where he directed the contractor to accelerate construction and ensure that the facility is completed to the required standards.

The Deputy President ordered that the market be ready for occupation and trading activities by the end of this year.

The facility is expected to provide traders with a modern trading environment while supporting local businesses and improving commercial activity in the area.

Dr Kindiki emphasised the need for quality workmanship, warning that the Government would not accept shoddy work or unnecessary delays on publicly funded projects.

The inspection of the projects comes amid increased Government focus on accelerating the implementation of development programmes and ensuring that completed projects are put to use without prolonged delays.

For residents of Lari, the road and market projects are expected to provide improved access to markets, shorten travel times and create a more conducive environment for trade and other economic activities.

The expansion of the road network is also expected to strengthen the constituency’s links with Githunguri, Kijabe, Mai Mahiu and other parts of Kiambu and neighbouring counties.

The Government has increasingly presented road infrastructure as a key component of its development agenda, with the upgrading of local roads expected to complement major national transport corridors such as the Rironi-Mau Summit highway.

With works continuing on several fronts, attention now shifts to contractors to meet deadlines and deliver projects that residents have long awaited.
