Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a has said residents of Kiambu are more interested in development projects than political rhetoric as she rallied support for the Kenya Kwanza administration during Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s development tour of Limuru.
Ms Ng’ang’a, who has declared her interest in the Kiambu governorship in the 2027 elections, accompanied Dr Kindiki during the tour, where the national government donated nine milk coolers to farmers as part of efforts to strengthen the dairy value chain in the region.
Addressing residents, the MP sought to link the government’s development record to the political choices of Kiambu voters, saying the county’s residents were capable of deciding who they would support in the next elections.
“The people of Kiambu know who they will elect. And the people of Kiambu want development, not politics,” Ms Ng’ang’a said.
She urged Dr Kindiki to continue visiting different parts of the county and relay residents’ concerns to President William Ruto, while pointing to ongoing road construction as evidence of government investment in the area.
According to the MP, improved roads in Lari were already making it easier for dairy farmers and milk transporters to move their produce to markets.
“You know Lari had a problem. Right now, the roads are being built. Even my milk people in Wakirita, their vehicles are no longer breaking down as the roads are progressing,” she said.
Ms Ng’ang’a invited the Deputy President to tour Lari and inspect projects being implemented in the constituency, saying residents wanted development programmes to continue.
She also used the occasion to mobilise residents behind the government, repeatedly calling on the crowd to demonstrate their support for the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“Tell the President that here we are firm and steady,” she told the gathering.
The MP also sought to gauge support for her gubernatorial bid, asking residents who back the “Mama Simba” slogan associated with her political campaign to raise their hands.
Her intervention added a political dimension to the Deputy President’s development tour, coming as political leaders in Kiambu position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ms Ng’ang’a has been increasingly presenting herself as a candidate for the Kiambu governor’s seat while maintaining that development should remain central to the county’s political discourse.
During the Limuru meeting, she said residents should judge leaders by the projects being implemented rather than political promises.
The MP singled out road construction and support for dairy farmers as areas where she said residents were already seeing the impact of government programmes.
The nine milk coolers handed over during the tour are expected to support farmers in preserving milk and improving handling of the produce before it reaches processors and markets.
For a county where dairy farming is an important economic activity, investment in milk collection and storage infrastructure could help address challenges associated with transportation, spoilage and market access.
Ms Ng’ang’a said the benefits of improved infrastructure were already being felt by farmers in areas such as Lari and Wakirita, particularly through easier movement of milk.
She further urged the Deputy President to keep engaging residents across Kiambu and to take their development priorities to the national government.
“Welcome to Lari and come and see the projects that are going on,” she said.
Her remarks came against the backdrop of growing political activity in Kiambu ahead of the 2027 General Election, with several leaders positioning themselves for elective posts.
While Ms Ng’ang’a sought to frame the conversation around development, she also used the gathering to demonstrate her political support among residents and promote her gubernatorial ambitions.
She ended by calling for continued cooperation between residents and the national government, saying people in Lari had embraced development initiatives being undertaken by the administration.
The Deputy President’s tour of Limuru formed part of a wider government effort to showcase development projects and engage residents on infrastructure and agricultural programmes.
