A major facelift of schools in Kiambu Town Constituency is gathering pace, with classrooms being constructed, old facilities renovated and security infrastructure upgraded under projects spearheaded by Kiambu MP Machua Waithaka through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
The projects, spread across several schools, are aimed at easing congestion, improving safety and providing learners with modern and more conducive facilities.
At Kiambu Primary School, 18 classrooms are undergoing a comprehensive renovation as the final phase of a wider school improvement programme.
The works follow the construction of 11 new classrooms, which have helped address congestion at the institution.
The ongoing renovations include replacement of old roofs, windows and doors, installation of floor tiles, painting and fitting of new blackboards, among other improvements.
The school is also receiving a security upgrade, with construction of a perimeter wall along the playground and installation of modern gates at both the main entrance and playground entrance.
The improvements are expected to give pupils and teachers a safer, cleaner and more conducive environment for learning.
At Kiambu Township Secondary School, construction of a modern two-storey classroom block with 12 classrooms has entered its final stages.
The new facility is designed to provide additional learning space as demand for classrooms continues to grow.
The classrooms are being fully tiled, with the project expected to improve the physical learning environment and reduce pressure on existing facilities.
The investment is part of a broader education infrastructure programme that has been implemented in Kiambu Town Constituency since 2023, focusing on construction of new classrooms and rehabilitation of existing school facilities.
Waithaka has maintained that investment in education infrastructure is critical to giving learners the facilities they need to compete academically.
The projects also come at a time when schools in rapidly growing urban areas face pressure from rising enrolment and limited infrastructure.
At Ting’ang’a Model Primary School, construction has also commenced on a perimeter wall and modern gate as part of efforts to strengthen security around the institution.
A two-storey block containing six additional classrooms is being built at the school to help ease congestion.
The school’s existing classrooms are also undergoing comprehensive renovation, including replacement of roofs, windows and doors and installation of floor tiles.
The wider improvement programme includes cabro paving of the school compound, which is expected to provide cleaner and safer walkways while giving the institution a more modern appearance.
The projects reflect an approach that goes beyond simply adding classrooms, combining expansion of learning space with rehabilitation of ageing facilities and improvements to security and the general school environment.
For primary and secondary school learners in the constituency, the projects are expected to translate into more classroom space, improved safety and better physical conditions for teaching and learning.
