Police in Lari sub county have urged motorists to be careful while using the Nairobi Nakuru highways since it is normally covered by fog and mist in morning hours.
Sub county police commander Emily Ngaruiya said the condition hinders the required drivers visibility.
She spoke on Monday at Magina area where a fatal accident scene which left two people dead while others admitted at the AIC Kijabe hospital.
Ngaruiya said the accident occured when a station wagon car collided headon with a Toyota hiace matatu.
The driver of the station wagon died while being rushed to the hospital while one of the public service vehicle’s occupant was pronounced dead at the casualty section of the hospital.
The police commander said some accidents are caused by human error, urging drivers to be careful while on that highway.
Police noted that the dangerous sections include Nyambari, Kimende, Gichiengo and Kinale.
“Our drivers need to be very careful while using this road. It has so many vehicles using it every day. On the other hand, during morning hours and at night, it is covered by mist and fog. A driver cannot see far” she advised.
She added that the wreckage of the vehicles were towed to Lari police station as investigations goes on.
Residents have too urged the government to mark all black spots so that drivers can be cautioned well on dangerous sections.
However, they said traffic police led by base commander chief inspector Noah Kipchumba have been responding to slight accidents, inspecting and enlightening motorists about the road safety so as to reduce fatalities.
A residents Pastor Njoroge Kamande said police have been also been responding well to road accidents as well as other issues like crime.
