The ongoing JITUME ICT Stage 1 training at the Ndumberi JITUME Centre is steadily transforming the lives of young people in Kiambu Constituency by equipping them with practical digital skills and opening pathways to employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation in the growing digital economy.

The initiative, spearheaded by Kiambu MP Machua Waithaka, continues to attract recent Form Four graduates and other young people seeking to build careers in information and communication technology through free training offered at the modern ICT hub.

Speaking during the ongoing training programme, the legislator encouraged parents and guardians to take advantage of the opportunity by enrolling their children instead of allowing them to remain idle at home after completing secondary school.

The programme is designed to provide participants with foundational ICT knowledge, computer literacy, internet skills, and digital competencies that can prepare them for further technical training, online work opportunities, and self-employment.

Since its launch, the JITUME Centre has already produced graduates who have gone on to pursue higher-level ICT courses, secure internship opportunities, establish small digital enterprises, and confidently utilize technology in their academic and professional journeys. Beneficiaries have also reported improved access to online learning platforms, digital job searches, and freelance opportunities that were previously beyond their reach due to limited technological skills.

Local education stakeholders and community leaders have lauded the programme for addressing youth unemployment by investing in practical skills that are increasingly in demand across various sectors of the economy. The initiative has also helped bridge the digital divide by making quality ICT training accessible to young people regardless of their financial background.

Parents have been urged to encourage all eligible Gen Z students, particularly those who have recently completed their Form Four studies, to register for the free classes and take advantage of the resources available at the Ndumberi ICT Hub.

The continued expansion of digital literacy programmes is expected to play a significant role in preparing young people for Kenya’s evolving technology-driven economy while nurturing innovation and creating new opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

Under the slogan “Yangu Ni Kazi Tu” and the broader development agenda “Delivering the Promise,” the JITUME programme continues to position itself as a catalyst for youth empowerment, ensuring that the next generation is equipped with the skills needed to compete and thrive in an increasingly digital world.
