As Kenya enters the electioneering phase, political figures across the country are actively searching for platforms that best align with their ambitions. In Kiambu County, incumbent Governor Dr. Kimani Wamatangi has indicated plans to realign his political affiliations, clearly signaling that he will not run on a ticket associated with the current ruling coalition.
Addressing a public gathering in Ruiru, Governor Wamatangi reassured residents that he would vie under a party highly favored and accepted across the Mt. Kenya region, with an official announcement expected in the coming months.
Wamatangi detailed a long history of alleged state-sponsored intimidation, asserting that political adversaries within the current administration have attempted to derail his political career since 2017. He alleged that these opponents staged legal battles aimed at blocking his candidature in favor of rival contenders.
“We are well aware of their schemes,” Wamatangi remarked. “They have gone so far as to drag these orchestrated cases into my personal and family life, creating friction between my wife, my children, and myself.”
The Governor maintained that his relentless defense of public utilities is the core reason behind his political targeted attacks. He argued that powerful individuals within government circles are seeking his removal because he has firmly blocked their attempts to seize public land in Kiambu.
“I will not surrender, nor will I permit anyone to plunder the resources belonging to the people of Kiambu. Anyone seeking land must earn it through honest labor like every other hard-working citizen,” Wamatangi warned.
Concurrently, Kiambu County Assembly members rallied behind the Governor. Led by Kamenu Ward MCA J Mburu, the MCAs urged voters to demand substance over small political inducements from aspirants looking to unseat Wamatangi.
Critiquing rivals who rely on giving out hand-outs such as rice and beans to sway voters, the MCAs challenged political opponents to articulate sustainable, long-term development programs that genuinely serve the residents of Kiambu
