MP Machua Steps Up Push for Youth Skills and Creative Opportunities

Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka has intensified efforts to secure opportunities for young people, holding talks with officials from the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy on ways of equipping youth with skills, mentorship and platforms to turn their talents into sustainable livelihoods.

Mr Waithaka said his team held a productive engagement with officials at Talanta Plaza, Nairobi, as part of efforts to explore opportunities that can benefit young men and women in Kiambu and beyond.

The discussions focused on the potential for partnerships and programmes that can expose young people to skills, creative opportunities and platforms where they can develop and monetise their talents.

The MP said Kenya’s youthful population remains one of the country’s greatest assets but requires deliberate investment in skills development, mentorship and access to opportunities to realise its full potential.

“We believe our youth have immense potential, and with the right skills, mentorship and opportunities, they can turn their talents into meaningful livelihoods and contribute significantly to our community and the country,” Mr Waithaka said.

His engagement with the State Department comes at a time when the Government is seeking to expand opportunities for young people through skills development, entrepreneurship, the creative economy and other programmes designed to improve access to employment and income-generating activities.

For Kiambu, the initiative could open new avenues for young people with talents in music, film, fashion, digital content creation, sports and other areas of the creative economy.

Mr Waithaka said the engagement was aimed at identifying practical opportunities rather than merely holding discussions, signalling his intention to link young people directly to programmes through which they can acquire marketable skills and build sustainable careers.

The MP has increasingly positioned youth empowerment and development as part of his constituency agenda, with his latest engagement seeking to bring national Government opportunities closer to young people at the grassroots.

He hinted at forthcoming initiatives arising from the discussions, saying: “Something good is cooking.”

The statement has raised expectations among young people who are keen to benefit from training, mentorship, exposure and platforms that can help them transform their talents into businesses and employment.

Mr Waithaka pledged to continue working with relevant Government agencies and stakeholders to ensure that young people are not left behind as Kenya expands its digital, creative and entrepreneurial economy.

He said the focus would remain on delivering tangible opportunities to constituents, reiterating his political mantra, “Yangu ni Kazi Tu”, alongside his pledges of being a “Fundi wa Maendeleo” and “The Man Who Keeps His Word.”

The engagement marks another step in the MP’s efforts to connect Kiambu youth with national programmes and institutions that can provide the skills and exposure needed to compete in an increasingly knowledge-driven economy.
