Kiambu NG-CDF Steps Up Road Projects as Waithaka Pushes for Better Connectivity

Kiambu Constituency is witnessing a fresh push to improve road infrastructure, with the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) under the stewardship of MP Machua Waithaka rolling out a series of road improvement and tarmacking projects across the constituency.

The projects, being undertaken in different parts of the constituency, are aimed at opening up residential areas, improving connectivity, easing movement of people and goods and creating an environment conducive to business growth.

In Ndumberi Ward, works have commenced on the Kiriguini A Road, where contractors are undertaking grading, compaction and murraming as the first phase of upgrading the road.

The intervention is expected to address longstanding challenges faced by residents, motorists and pedestrians who depend on the road for their daily activities.

The road is also an important link for local businesses, with improved accessibility expected to reduce transport difficulties and make it easier for residents to access markets, schools, workplaces and other essential services.

Waithaka said the constituency would continue prioritising practical infrastructure projects capable of delivering tangible benefits to residents.

He said improving the road network was not only about easing transportation but also about supporting local economic activity and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

“The project will improve mobility, strengthen connectivity, and make transportation safer and more convenient for motorists, pedestrians and businesses that rely on this road every day,” he said.

The road works come as the constituency continues to expand its infrastructure programme, with a number of roads being upgraded from earth and gravel surfaces to all-weather roads.

Elsewhere, the tarmacking of the Ting’ang’a–Maii-ni Road is expected to provide a major boost to connectivity in the area and open up new opportunities for businesses along the route.

The road serves residents and motorists who have for years had to contend with difficulties associated with poor road conditions, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

Once completed, the road is expected to shorten travel difficulties, improve access to neighbouring areas and support the movement of agricultural produce and other goods.

Waithaka has also directed the contractor to give priority to drainage works as part of the road construction.

He said a properly constructed drainage system would be critical in protecting the road from damage caused by storm water while also shielding neighbouring homes and businesses from flooding and other water-related challenges.

The emphasis on drainage is significant as poorly managed storm water can rapidly damage newly constructed roads, undermine road foundations and create additional costs for both residents and authorities.

The constituency’s approach therefore seeks to combine road surfacing with supporting infrastructure capable of improving the durability of the investment.

In Thindigua, residents are also set to benefit from an expansion of the area’s tarmac road network, with construction works already underway along the Kasarini–PCEA–Windsor Road stretch around Feruzzi Tower.

During an inspection of the project, Waithaka was joined by residents and engineers from the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) to assess progress on the ground.

The contractor, Ocean Creed Contractors, has commenced the preliminary works, with groundwork and other preparations currently underway ahead of the actual tarmacking phase.

For residents, the project represents another step in the transformation of an area whose rapid growth has placed increasing pressure on its road infrastructure.

Waithaka said Thindigua had historically lagged behind in terms of paved roads, despite its growing population and expanding residential and commercial developments.

He noted that the area did not have a single tarmac road at Independence but said the situation had progressively changed since he assumed office, with several roads already upgraded.

“Since I came into office, we have been able to tarmac several roads in Thindigua, and we will continue expanding the network until our people get the infrastructure they deserve,” he said.

The MP acknowledged that infrastructure development takes time but maintained that the constituency was making steady progress in addressing its road deficit.

“The progress may be gradual, but we are moving steadily. Slowly but surely, Thindigua is getting connected,” he said.

The ongoing projects reflect the growing importance of road infrastructure in a constituency experiencing rapid residential and commercial development.

For Kiambu residents, better roads are expected to have an impact beyond transportation, including reducing vehicle operating costs, improving access to businesses and services and making it easier for traders to move goods.

Improved roads can also enhance the value and attractiveness of areas that were previously constrained by poor accessibility.

For small businesses, reliable roads can mean easier access to customers and suppliers, while residents can benefit from reduced travel times and improved access to public facilities.

The projects also come at a time when Kiambu continues to experience intense urbanisation, with previously rural and semi-rural areas increasingly becoming residential and commercial centres.

This growth has created an urgent demand for infrastructure capable of keeping pace with population expansion.

The road programme is therefore emerging as one of the key components of Waithaka’s development agenda, with the NG-CDF seeking to spread infrastructure investment across different wards.

The focus on upgrading roads also reflects a shift from short-term maintenance to longer-term infrastructure improvement, particularly where growing populations require durable transport links.

As works continue on Kiriguini A, Ting’ang’a–Maii-ni and the Thindigua road network, residents will be watching closely to ensure projects are completed on schedule and to the required standards.

For Waithaka and the Kiambu NG-CDF, the challenge will be to sustain the momentum, ensure quality workmanship and expand the road network to other areas still struggling with poor connectivity.

With the constituency’s population and economic activity continuing to grow, improved roads are increasingly becoming a necessity rather than a luxury.

The ongoing projects are consequently being positioned as investments not only in transport infrastructure but also in the broader economic and social future of Kiambu Constituency.
