Residents of Kanunga and neighbouring areas are set to benefit from improved access to government services following the operationalisation of Kanunga Division in Kiambu Constituency.
Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka and Kiambu Sub County Senior Deputy County Commissioner Titus Macharia presided over a public baraza in Kanunga to mark the establishment of the new administrative division, which will be headed by Assistant County Commissioner Teddy Wanjau.
The development seeks to address longstanding administrative challenges that forced residents to seek certain government services through Karuri, despite their areas falling within Kiambu Constituency.

Previously, chiefs serving Kanunga, Ngegu, Turitu and neighbouring areas operated under Kiambaa Sub County, an arrangement that, according to Mr Waithaka, complicated administrative coordination and affected the accessibility and delivery of government services.
The operationalisation of the division is expected to harmonise administrative structures, strengthen coordination among government departments and bring public services closer to residents.
Mr Waithaka said the change followed sustained efforts to address residents’ concerns and align government administration with the needs of the local population.
He described the development as a milestone in his four years of leadership, saying it reflected efforts to resolve practical challenges affecting constituents and improve the efficiency of government operations.
The public baraza brought together chiefs from Kiambu and Kiambaa sub counties, heads of government departments, area MCA David Chogi, aspirants for various elective positions, community leaders and residents.

The meeting provided an opportunity for local administrators and other stakeholders to engage residents on the changes and the expected benefits of the new administrative arrangement.
The establishment of the division marks an administrative shift for communities that have long navigated government structures outside their immediate constituency to access certain services.
Attention will now turn to the effectiveness of the new arrangement in improving service delivery, strengthening local administration and ensuring residents can access government services with greater convenience.
Mr Waithaka said his focus remained on improving administrative efficiency and delivering development projects and services that respond to the needs of Kiambu residents.
