The rate of alcohol intake has drastically gone down in Lari sub county following the partnership between of the government and the community to control it’s abuse.

This has been necessitated by closure of all bars before the stipulated time, with operators opening their businesses between 5pm up to 11pm.

A spot check at Kimende town indicate that many bars are remaining closed for the better part of the day.

“Our young people are loitering in the shopping centers in the sub county looking for where to get an alcoholic drink in vain” said Noah Mburu, a Kimende town resident has said.

This was as a result of a death of a person who was alleged to have consumed an alcoholic drink on September 20, 2026 at a Kimende town bar.

However, the efforts of the bar operators, owners and the government are being faced by reckless bar maids who are allegedly hawking the alcoholic drinks secretly as early in the alcoholic drinks.

“Some bar attendants are hawking the alcoholic drinks to their own customer’s. They are walking in the villages, estates and even calling them in their mobile phones” said Jecinta Wanja from Kinale center.

However, the residents have applauded the police for their quick response to arrest those breaking the law.

Lari sub county police commander Emily Ngaruiya said they have arrested bar owners and other operators who they took to court of law.

Ngaruiya revealed that, they have also been arresting the drunkards who are helping them to discover where they drunk the alcoholic drinks from.

“We are always alert. We want to ensure that the rogue alcoholic sellers behaved- they respect the alcoholic laws. No one will bend it” she warned.

“We have been patrolling the whole sub county day and night to ensure that no one is misbehaving. Those we have arrested have been published by courts of law. We will not tire till will everybody has followed the law” the police boss has added.

Speaking at Kimende town on Wednesday, Ngaruiya said they are not disregarding any intelligence report they are receiving from the public regarding alcoholism.

Members of the public too have noted that, the move has reduced drunkards in the trading centers and villages.

“The very many young people who we used to note in our trading centers being drunk have reduced together with their reckless noises” said Peter Njenga, a Kimende resident.

Njenga who is also a pastor with The Living Testimony Ministries said if the trend of locking the chances of consuming alcohol is achieved, the youths will engage themselves in meaningful economic and farming activities.

“They will have families, practice farming and other businesses. The country will retain strong and healthy people for it’s prosperity” Njenga added.
