Two suspects have been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of a middle-aged businesswoman last Friday in Kagwe village, Lari sub-county, Kiambu county.
A worker at her farm, who is a Ugandan national, and a close friend were apprehended and are helping the police with the probe.
Lari sub-county police commander Emily Ngaruiya said the businesswoman, who operates an animal feeds shop and a dairy farm, was found murdered inside her house.
Ngaruiya said the victim had been hit on the head with a blunt object, adding that there were signs of a struggle in her bedroom.
”The murderer seems to have sneaked inside her house without her knowledge. Items inside the house had been disarranged, an indicator that she had really struggled with the killer,” she said.
”However, investigations will shed more light as to who exactly did it, the motive of the murder, and how it was committed. We are treating the two as suspects,” she added.
The police commander has urged locals who may have any information that might help them with more details regarding the murder to visit their offices and assist.
”If anyone has any information that can help our investigators, we urge them to share it with us. Do not fear; our detectives are well-trained to handle tip-off details without revealing the source,” Ngaruiya urged.
Her body was taken to Mukoe Funeral Home, where an autopsy will be conducted as investigations continue.
A resident, Cecilia Njeri, said on Sunday that they were shocked by the murder, describing the businesswoman as a hardworking person.
”We were shocked when we learned about her murder. Even if we are not saying it’s her Ugandan worker, let us employ people we know—people who are recommended even by our chiefs and assistant chiefs,” Njeri said.
”Reason being, we only see these people here in our villages looking for jobs, and we do not know why they come all the way to look for casual jobs. Maybe they were criminals from where they came from and are in hiding looking for survival,” Njeri, who is a human rights activist, said.
Another local, Samuel Njuguna, described the incident as unfortunate, adding that society has been robbed of a respectable person.
”We would want an investigation where we will know exactly what happened. We have been wounded; it’s so painful to lose a person who was respected and showed a lot of respect to nearly all locals. We would want to see justice done,” Njuguna said.
