Three people are feared dead after drinking suspected dangerous alcoholic drinks at Kimende town in Lari sub county.
One of them died on Sunday while the two others died on Monday morning, prompting residents to start demonstrations.
Another one who survived is hospitalized at Orthodox hospital at Kimende.
The demos later turned into breaking all pubs that sell wines and spirits and destroying all alcoholic drinks they find.
All businesses came to a standstill, as protests and destruction went on.
Efforts if the Lari Deputy county commissioner Samue Kariuki and sub county police commander to stop them were futile, something which forced the police to lob teargas to them.
The irate locals led by Virginia Wanjiru said some alcoholic drinks were being brewed at Kimende town and packaged at the center.
She asked the government to investigate since it was sad to loose three people within two days.
She said the four were drinking at a bar knowns as Gwa Athuri on Sunday evening.
“This is sad. We will fight the liquor sellers until they stop selling unknown drinks to locals. We will push them until they open other businesses and stop selling alcoholic drinks to our men” she said
Another resident James Maingi said that the notorious bars are many, noting that the most notorious of all include Topways Distributors, Gwa Athuri, Club K2, Descent Liquors and Wakariru B Pub.
Maingi said that those outlets start selling the alcoholic drinks in the morning.
Kijabe MCA Nyutu Wamwere said it was sad to loose young men to alcoholic drinks.
He urged the national government’s arms such as Kenya Bureau of Standards and the Kenya Anti counterfeit Authority to help the police and the administration to fight the alcoholic drinks.
The MCA said even though the county issues bar licenses, a lot of counterfeit alcohol drinks are finding themselves in the shelves and sold to locals.
He noted that, the licenses guides the alcoholic drinks sold should be of alcoholic consumption of 4 per cent but the suspect alcoholic drinks are discovered to have over 70 per cent alcoholic consumption.
Nyutu also revealed that, the county assembly was on its way to come up with a bill that will see the public participate in licensing the bars, adding that they will be noting the notorious ones.
