Public schools across Kiambu Constituency are undergoing a major transformation following sustained investment through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), with area MP Machua Waithaka reaffirming his commitment to improving learning infrastructure, expanding access to education, and equipping young people with digital skills.

The latest phase of development was marked by the commissioning of several completed projects at Ndumberi Primary School, where the legislator joined parents, teachers, learners, and local residents to officially hand over upgraded facilities designed to enhance the learning environment.

The projects include the construction of additional classrooms, a modern Junior Secondary School (JSS) science laboratory, installation of tiles in all classrooms, replacement of windows and doors, fitting of new blackboards, paving of the school compound with cabro blocks, installation of solar panels to reduce electricity costs, and construction of a perimeter wall complete with a modern entrance gate.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Waithaka said the improvements have transformed Ndumberi Primary School into a modern institution capable of providing learners with a safe, secure, and conducive environment for quality education.

He noted that investment in education remains one of the most effective ways of securing the future of the constituency, adding that similar projects will continue to be rolled out in schools across Kiambu.

“Education remains the greatest investment we can make for the future of our community. We will continue improving learning infrastructure across Kiambu Constituency to ensure every child has access to quality education,” he said.

The MP later visited Kiambu Primary School, where he donated new uniforms to the school’s band as part of efforts to strengthen co-curricular activities and nurture young talent.

In addition to the uniforms, the constituency has engaged a professional trainer, a former member of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), to provide structured band training not only at Kiambu Primary School but also in several other schools across the constituency.

Waithaka said the programme is aimed at promoting discipline, teamwork, patriotism, and self-confidence among learners while exposing them to valuable life skills beyond the classroom.

The legislator also convened a consultative meeting with head teachers from primary schools across Kiambu Constituency to discuss challenges affecting the education sector and identify practical solutions to improve learning outcomes.

The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between schools and the NG-CDF in improving infrastructure, creating better learning environments, and enhancing educational standards.

During the meeting, Waithaka pledged to pursue a sustainable model that would eliminate the financial burden on parents by making primary education completely free within the constituency.

He pointed to the success of the constituency’s programme that has enabled students in all day secondary schools to learn without paying school fees, saying a similar approach could be adopted for primary schools through prudent management of public resources and effective leadership.

According to the MP, ensuring every child has access to quality education regardless of their family’s financial status remains one of his administration’s priorities.

Beyond physical infrastructure, the constituency is also investing in digital literacy through the Ndumberi Jitume ICT Hub, where young people are currently undertaking free training in Basic Computer Skills and Graphic Design.

Waithaka urged parents not to allow Form Four graduates to remain idle at home but instead enrol them in the programme to gain marketable digital skills that can improve their employment prospects and entrepreneurial opportunities.

He observed that computer literacy has become an essential requirement in today’s digital economy and said equipping young people with such competencies would enable them to compete effectively in both local and international job markets.

The MP said the digital skills initiative complements ongoing investments in education by preparing learners for emerging opportunities in the technology-driven economy while empowering youth to become self-reliant.

The education, infrastructure, and digital empowerment programmes form part of a broader development agenda being implemented through the NG-CDF in Kiambu Constituency, with the legislator maintaining that quality education remains the cornerstone of sustainable socio-economic development.

Residents, teachers, and parents welcomed the projects, saying improved school infrastructure and expanded access to digital skills training would significantly enhance learning conditions and better prepare young people for future opportunities.
