The Kiambu County KANU Branch has announced it will begin massive recruitment of new members ahead of the 2027 General Elections, targeting over 200 members in each ward.
Speaking from their offices at Indian Bazaar in Kiambu town, Party County Branch Chairman Joseph Mukirai—who also doubles as the Mt. Kenya Chairman—said this will be a massive initiative that will go into every corner of the county.
”We have very solid ground, having been there as the oldest party, and we believe that we have all it takes to move on with our initiative,” Mukirai added.
He asserted that they will field candidates in all positions, from MCA, MP, and Women Rep to Senator and Governor. “So we urge all contenders for those positions to consider applying, as we are known to be a free and fair party,” Mr. Mukirai said.
He disclosed they will be conducting stiff campaigns and were not allied to any coalition but were running independent campaigns.
Speaking at the same time, Party County Secretary General David Sakina gave a warning to those claiming they own properties allied to the party, saying they will reclaim them and will not in any way allow any grabbing to be done under their watch.
”I sound a very strong warning to those claiming that they have titles over our properties: we are coming for you,” Mr. Sakina added.
He called upon the members of the public to be wary of the scheme, noting this trend had been reported severally, and appealed to them to perform due diligence before involving themselves in any deals.
KANU was the ruling party for nearly 40 years through the leadership of the late former President Daniel Moi, before being taken over by his son Gideon Moi, with Mr. George Wainaina (GEWA)—who has been a long-time Kiambu County Party Chairman—taking over as the Party’s National Secretary General.
