The Gikuyu community elders from various groups have strongly condemned the move intended to be undertaken to build affordable housing at he reverrend shrine gradens at Githunguri consttuency which has remained an iconic site in the area for decades.
The elders expessed their dismay and anger that the Government will forcefully undertake such grave action without adequate public participation or open consultation with the Gikuyu elders .
Led by KIkuyu Council Elders chairman Wachira Kiago, they accused area MP Gathoni Wamuchomba of applying double standars stating they had presented the facts and all documents to her and she vowed to support an initiative of constructing a traditional ‘Thingira’ but three months later made an about turn.
The Githunguri shrine spanning to over 58acres was specifically purchased by ‘our’ forefathers and it was mischievous for the Government to forcefully take over since it will dent what the forefathers would have wanted to achieve.
They vowe to protect the shrine whcih has gallows,Githunguri technical college and other historical sites monumental in the whole of the republic.
