Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka has stepped up his household economic empowerment initiative with the distribution of chicks and piglets to residents of Jaegers area in Kiambu Township, in a fresh push to promote self employment and improve livelihoods.
The initiative, which targets households seeking alternative sources of income, is part of the legislator’s broader efforts to empower residents through small scale agribusiness and sustainable income generating activities.
During the exercise, Mr Waithaka said his commitment to empowering communities predated his entry into elective politics, adding that he had consistently pursued initiatives aimed at improving the economic welfare of ordinary households.

He said the distribution of livestock was intended to provide residents with opportunities to venture into poultry and pig farming, which can offer families additional income while strengthening their capacity to meet daily needs.
“My focus remains
on creating opportunities that enable households to generate income, achieve self reliance and build sustainable livelihoods,” Mr Waithaka said.
The MP said economic empowerment remains central to his development agenda, with an emphasis on initiatives that enable residents to become economically independent rather than rely solely on external assistance.
The distribution of chicks and piglets is expected to provide beneficiaries with a starting point for small scale livestock farming, an enterprise that can be expanded over time through proper management, feeding and access to markets.
Poultry farming offers households opportunities to generate income through the sale of eggs and birds, while pig farming can provide additional revenue through the sale of livestock and pork products.
However, the long term success of such initiatives depends on beneficiaries’ access to animal health services, affordable feeds, appropriate housing and reliable markets.
Mr Waithaka reiterated his commitment to supporting residents through practical empowerment programmes, saying his approach was anchored on creating opportunities that translate into tangible improvements in household welfare.
The legislator has continued to position economic empowerment as a key component of his development agenda, with the latest initiative targeting residents of Kiambu Township.
He reaffirmed his development philosophy through the slogan, “Yangu Ni Kazi Tu”, maintaining that his priority remains delivering on commitments made to the electorate.
The initiative also reflects the growing importance of small scale agribusiness as a potential source of income for households seeking to diversify their economic activities and build resilience against financial challenges.
Mr Waithaka, who has branded his development approach as “Fundi wa Maendeleo”, said his commitment to keeping promises remained central to his service to the people of Kiambu.
