The Return of ‘TNA’: Former Ikinu MCA Anne Njuruba Plots 2027 Comeback on Jubilee Ticket

Former Ikinu Ward MCA Anne Njuruba has officially announced her political comeback, declaring her intention to contest the seat in the upcoming 2027 general election. Nearly a decade after leaving office, the veteran politician is looking to reclaim her seat, this time running on a Jubilee Party ticket led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mrs. Njuruba, popularly known by her supporters as “Wa Kinjo” or “TNA1”, famously shot into the national limelight 15 years ago. She made history as the first woman to be elected to represent Ikinu Ward in a high-stakes by-election. At the time, she was flying the flag of Uhuru Kenyatta’s newly minted party, The National Alliance (TNA), which had been formed just months prior to the 2013 general election cycle.

The historical by-election was occasioned after the former area Councillor, George Cimbi, unexpectedly relocated to the United States of America (USA) after securing a green card, leaving his constituents without a representative.

Faced with a critical test for his new political vehicle, the former President could not afford a loss and vigorously campaigned for Njuruba. The aggressive campaign paid off, with Njuruba securing both the party ticket and the ultimate victory. She easily defended the seat in the 2013 general election when Uhuru Kenyatta joined forces with the current President, William Ruto, on a joint TNA-URP ticket that swept them into power.

During her tenure, Njuruba racked up a notable track record of infrastructure developments. Key achievements included the recarpeting of the Ngemwa-Mununga, Gititu Factory-to-Mutuya, and Mutuya-Kamondo Junction roads.

Through collaborations with various government agencies, she also pushed for the opening of critical feeder roads, including Gatina-Kamondo, Gaciririri, and Kanyiriri roads.

Additionally, the now-dilapidated Ikinu-Karia-Lioki road and the Nyagoti road were murrammed under her watch. Working alongside the then-Githunguri MCA , she successfully lobbied for the construction of the Ikuria bridge, while the installation of the Ikinu town floodlights remains one of her most visible flagship achievements. On local commerce, Njuruba pushed for the establishment of modern markets, successfully delivering the Karia market, though other market projects stalled after she left office.

As the 2027 campaign season gears up, Wa Kinjo says her primary agenda is to complete the development blueprint she initiated during her time in office, with a specific focus on the Gatina-Mutharabaini road and the completion of the Ikinu Market.

“I also believe we still have big space and ground to construct a modern bus park in Ikinu to help stop congestion along the busy Githunguri-Kiambu road,” Njuruba told the Kiambu Observer.
