Traders and residents of Nairobi city county have applauded the government for investing in beautifying it.

They said that the move by the Kenya National Highways Authority of landscaping the pedestrian walks has been giving the town an attractive look.

A business lady Lucy Omondi said pedestrians are walking freely, without crossing each other.

Omondi who operates a Spa at South C, said the move indicates that KENHA has considering on how to improve pedestrians, hawkers as well the general look for the city so as to attract more visitors as well as investors.

“The country grows when the institutions like Kenha considers not only about vehicles, but also pedestrians and all road users including those who do businesses there” she said.

She spoke on Sunday after meeting a delegation of Kenha officials who were inspecting the ongoing capacity enhancement, landscaping, and beautification works at Harambee Cooperative Plaza.

The team was inspecting the James Gichuru Road Junction to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (A8/B10) Highway.

According to Kenha officials, the project has recorded significant progress, particularly in carriageway improvement works, pedestrian walkways, landscaping, and beautification activities.

Kenha board chairperson Winfrida Ngumi said that these improvements are aimed at enhancing traffic flow, improving road safety, and creating a more attractive and user-friendly road environment for motorists and pedestrians.

“We have reaffirmed KeNHA’s commitment to delivering quality highway infrastructure that supports efficient transport, enhances safety, and contributes to sustainable socio-economic development” he said.

Another trader Simon Peter Karanja urged Nairobians to safeguard what they have achieved since it was aimed at benefiting them directly.

“We need to safeguard what we already have been given. Kenha has done something commendable to us. We must safeguard it by all means” Karanja said.
