Business owners in Thika, Kiambu County, have been strongly advised to stay away from upcoming demonstrations to protect their lives and property from potential looting and vandalism.
Alfred Wanyoike, chairperson of the Thika Business Association, stated that local traders collectively agreed that closing shop and staying home is the safest course of action. While acknowledging that peaceful assembly is a constitutional right,
Wanyoike pointed out that past protests have been hijacked by criminal elements intent on destroying businesses. He emphasized that the local economy cannot risk the safety of its merchants, employees, or clientele.
According to Wanyoike, even a single day of disruption brings devastating financial consequences, making temporary closures a far better alternative than risking total destruction.
Echoing these views, Ruiru parliamentary hopeful Sammy Onyango urged citizens to abstain from the streets, suggesting they instead use their votes in the 2027 general election to remove the current administration from power
Alongside Samuel Ndungu, Onyango called on Kenyans to honor those who have died in past struggles through quiet reflection and prayer, rather than entering volatile environments that could lead to further bloodshed.
