Kiambu County politics took a new turn following a strong public statement by residents opposing any proposed impeachment of Governor Kimani Wamatangi, with leaders warning against the misuse of constitutional processes for political gain.
In a statement by Ndenderu Ward MCA 2027 aspirant John Mweha expressed firm opposition to any plan aimed at impeaching the governor, cautioning that impeachment should not be weaponized to destabilize county governance or settle political and personal disputes.
“Impeachment is a constitutional process and should never be misused as a political tool to undermine democratic institutions or disrupt governance,” Mweha stated, emphasizing that such actions risk eroding public trust and derailing development efforts in Kiambu County.
He reminded Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) of their constitutional responsibility to uphold the rule of law and resist undue external influence. He called on the assembly to prioritize unity, stability, and progress in the county rather than engaging in protracted political confrontations.
According to Mweha, residents of Kiambu County expect leadership that is focused on service delivery, development, and transformation. He warned that persistent political battles could distract from the county’s growth agenda and negatively affect service provision.
He further noted that Governor Wamatangi has demonstrated commitment toward transforming Kiambu County and should be allowed to fully implement his development agenda. “In line with democratic leadership and the will of the people, the governor deserves the opportunity to serve two complete terms,” he said.
The statement also urged individuals allegedly involved in impeachment plans to redirect their energy toward fulfilling their constitutional mandates instead of fueling divisions or obstructing progress within the county.
At the same time, Mweha called upon the Kiambu County administration to consistently uphold transparency and accountability in governance, noting that these principles are essential for effective and inclusive service delivery to all residents.
The remarks come amid rising political tensions in several counties, where impeachment threats have increasingly become a feature of local politics. Observers warn that frequent impeachment attempts risk undermining devolution and shifting focus away from development to political survival.
As the situation unfolds, stakeholders in Kiambu County continue to call for dialogue, cooperation, and adherence to constitutional principles in order to safeguard stability and development.
