Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja led a traffic flow inspection along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway at the Gichiengo-Kijabe junction in Kiambu County today, as traffic volume increased for Christmas Eve.

The IG urged all motorists to adhere to traffic rules and maintain lane discipline to ensure the safety of all road users. At the same time, the police boss warned that those who break the law will be charged instantly in mobile courts stationed along major highways throughout the festive season.

“All drivers and road users must be very careful. We want to ensure there are no traffic jams on our roads this festive season and maintain a free flow of vehicles,” Kanja said.

The IG further noted that police officers have been stationed along all major routes to monitor traffic flow.

“Anyone who contravenes traffic rules will be identified quickly, arrested, and charged in the mobile courts stationed along our busy roads,” he added.

He spoke while leading a multi-agency enforcement team in the Kijabe area of Lari Sub-County. He was accompanied by senior police officers and officials from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

During the exercise, several private, commercial, and public service vehicles (PSVs) were inspected. Lari Sub-County Police Commander Emily Ngaruiya and Base Commander Abraham Kiplagat were commended for leading teams day and night since last week to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Kanja also urged passengers traveling in PSVs to report careless driving and speeding to the police.

“We urge PSV travelers to report cases of speeding, reckless driving, and overloading. We are here to enforce the law and ensure the safety of every road user,” he said.
