Residents of Lari Kirenga ward in Lari constituency are up in arms urging the government to repair rural roads which are a challenge to movement.

They say roads are left with potholes, trenches after heavy rainfall, the situation which puts their vehicles at a risk on breaking down.

A Lare village resident Richard Njoroge explains that when it rains, nearly all roads becomes impassable, owing to stagnant waters due to lack of drainage and mud.

“In all seasons, we experience a challenge of movement. Those who own cars at times when it rains live them at their friends homes who are near tarmac roads” Njoroge said.

Njoroge who is also a horticultural farmer, says that at times their end up not selling their farm produces despite being perishable, due to lack of proper transport.

Stephen Ngigi who is also popularly known as Kibano, is a Member of County Assembly aspirant says that the economy of a country is supported by the little activities people do.

He says that the locals have been counting loses because of poor road network.

Ngigi farmers need to be empowered and the only thing the government and leaders should prioritise was roads.

“When you empower someone who is hardworking, you will have added value to what they do. Locals in Gitithia, Lare, Manyoni and Kwa Mbari ya Giathi are horticulture farmers who need better roads than the way they are” he said.

He said after offering over 10 lorries of stones and ballast to several roads at Kwa Mbari ya Giathi area, where local youths volunteered to spread it on their road so as to make it passable at all seasons.

Ngigi said locals also need to be empowered by agriculturalists so as to boost their yields and realise more profits.

“When you add some knowledge to people to do better what they normally do, you will see them improve” he said.

A Kiambu political analyst Phene Karanja noted that people from different regions will want to elect people with content but not really politicians in the upcoming 2027 general election.

Karanja applauded Ngigi for empowering locals with better roads, urging him to continue working with locals who are hungry of leaders who are concerned about development.
