The opposition yesterday vowed that it will not stop criticising President William Ruto’s government, even after they were dispersed by the police using tear gas and live bullets in Kikuyu constituency in Kiambu last Friday.
It has assured the government that they will not keep quiet, but will continue speaking out loudly.
The politicians also claimed that the strategy used by the police to block them from entering Kikuyu as they had planned, was well planned from an upper office.
Democracy for Citizens Party national deputy vice chairman Peter Mwathi said they were surprised by the police blocking them, even after informing them of their planned meeting two weeks ago.
“This was a total shame to the government. We informed them in good time. But on the meeting day, police reversed what we had informed them and started dispersing us” he said.
He further vowed that they will not be instilled with fear, since they will work as a team to inform masses about their plan of defeating Ruto in next year’s general elections.
He said they will continue speaking about corruption, misuse of police and resources, dismissing the facts and why the opposition need to be heard.
“Even after being blocked, we still entered on Kikuyu town where locals chanted “one term” for the President and their member of parliament Kimani Ichung’wa” Mwathi said.
“We are here to tell the government without fear that we are working as a team to tell masses about our plans, criricise it and even campaign against it and ensure no one will be in office after the next year’s general elections. They are all one term from the president” Mwathi added.
Mwathi who is former Limuru MP spoke at Kwambira trading center where he met supporters of the DCP from the constituency and urged them to work and communicate as a team so that the party can stay informed about what is happening on the ground.
The DCP national deputy chairman told the constituents be ready for him for another term, as he was planning to start his campaigns.
He vowed to confront what he termed as growing authoritarian tendencies of blocking the truth being known.
Mwathi who is also former chairman of security and administration parliamentary committee during the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government, asked Ruto’s government to respect the political parties and their members.
He noted that during the attacks, scores were left injured, vehicle and property were destroyed leaving businesses being closed.
Mwathi noted that among the vehicles that were hit with live bullets include that of Damaris Waiganjo from Kiambaa.
He petitioned the Inspector General of police Douglas Kanja to investigate properly real cause of the Friday chaos before the meeting that was organised by Gachagua started.
The opposition leader also says that they are not contented with the investigations being done, asking the police to take their investigations role seriously.
Mwathi adds that, the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers were well trained, equiped and well protected by the constitution to play their role properly.
“We have known the IG as well trained officer, a person who has never bended during an operation. The DCI officers are also well trained. They receives intelligence reports well. We wonder why it has taken them so long before taking step” Mwathi said.
