Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has condemned the overnight vandalism and demolition of the newly built Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centre at St. Francis Primary School in Mangu Ward, Gatundu North Constituency, calling it a politically motivated attack on public development.
The incident occurred between November 4 and 5, 2025, when hired goons broke into the facility, smashed windows, stole doors, and tore down sections of the walls. The modern classroom, one of 312 ECDE centres constructed under Governor Wamatangi’s administration, had already enrolled 86 learners and was equipped with kitchens, play areas, and modern furniture.
Speaking at a public event in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, on November 8, Wamatangi described the destruction as “clear evidence of deep disdain some leaders have for our people” and “dirty politics at its worst.” He questioned why those responsible chose to act under the cover of darkness with hired thugs—allegedly from Kariobangi in Nairobi—instead of raising concerns openly.
“Where will these 86 little children go now?” the governor asked, slamming the arrogance displayed by certain politicians. Residents accuse a local leader of orchestrating the attack after he reportedly warned parents the centre would be demolished once exams ended.
Police arrested six suspects and recovered tools used in the vandalism. Investigations are ongoing.
Governor Wamatangi vowed to rebuild the centre immediately, insisting that acts of sabotage will not derail his administration’s mission to provide quality early childhood education across Kiambu County. He urged security agencies to ensure the perpetrators face the full force of the law.
