A family in Ndumberi, Kiambu, is calling for urgent investigations into the death of their kin, who was found dead inside a local club at the Ndumberi shopping centre.

The family of the late Joseph Gachoka, a middle-aged man, suspects foul play on the part of the club. His sister claims she was turned away and harassed by the club owner when she went to pick up her brother after he had requested her assistance.

According to multiple accounts from family members and friends, the body of the deceased was found inside the club, popularly known as “ha Njambi,” in the morning, with visible injuries.

His sister stated that when she had checked on him earlier, he had no physical injuries and was in possession of his money. “We now believe he was harassed and beaten up inside the club, and that is why we want a full report over my brother’s death,” she said amidst sobs.

Residents have decried the notoriety of the bar owner, noting that this is not the first time young men have died after consuming brews in Ndumberi shopping centre.

They have now petitioned the local administration to quickly restore sanity in the area, which they say is slowly degenerating into small dens.
