Airtel Africa has partnered with SpaceX to deploy Starlink Direct-to-Cell satellite connectivity across 14 African markets, significantly expanding mobile network access for over 174 million customers in remote areas. This landmark agreement makes Airtel Africa the first operator on the continent to offer Starlink’s Direct-to-Cell service, leveraging 650 satellites for seamless coverage. The service, launching in 2026, will initially support text and data, with future plans for high-speed broadband. This collaboration aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure dependable service where traditional networks are unavailable.
