Tension remains critically high in Riabai village, Kiambu County, following the alleged brutal murder and rape of a middle-aged woman, an incident that echoes a similar horrific crime just months prior. The victim, identified as Wairimu wa Maara, who was locally known for selling intestines, was found deceased in her house near Riabai Stadium on Wednesday morning. This discovery follows initial reports that she had been found earlier under a local trench.
Impeccable sources confirmed that Wairimu’s body displayed bruises, strongly suggesting a violent struggle ensued with her assailant(s). Reports from authorities indicate that Wairimu managed to travel to her house after being found in the trench, where she was later discovered dead.
The recent tragic events have fuelled significant unrest among locals, who are pointing to a worrying pattern of escalating violence. Only a few months ago, an elderly woman from Gichoçho village within Riabai was similarly found raped and dumped in a local plantation, an incident that had already raised serious community security concerns.
Area leaders have publicly called for prompt and decisive action by security agencies, noting that the “notoriety of this issue has now escalated” and demanding that measures be implemented to curb the rising menace.
As the family of the deceased Wairimu wa Maara awaits a postmortem examination, they are making a public appeal for swift justice for the victim ahead of her burial, urging authorities to ensure the perpetrators are quickly apprehended.
