With the 2027 General Elections nearing, Kiambu Town Constituency, covering Ting’ang’a, Ndumberi, Riabai, and Kiambu Township wards, is witnessing a competitive race for the August House. Possible candidates—incumbent MP Machua Waithaka, former MP Jude Njomo, Riabai MCA Hezron Njoroge, Thomas Kimari of Gratom Babz, Alex Karundu, and Manuthu Mbugua—are set to campaign on infrastructure, agriculture, security, and unemployment solutions, addressing voters’ pressing concerns in this vibrant constituency.

Machua Waithaka, elected in 2022 on a UDA ticket, has transformed schools by installing cabro paving and stone fences, ensuring learner safety. His focus on upgrading polytechnics and providing bursaries for needy students has bolstered education. Waithaka’s infrastructure initiatives continue to enhance Kiambu’s development, making him a strong contender in the upcoming election.

Jude Njomo, MP from 2013 to 2022 under TNA and Jubilee tickets, utilized the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to renovate primary schools and tarmac feeder roads, improving mobility. Now with DCP, he built the Kiambu CDF Towers near Kiambu Police Station, leaving a legacy of projects that shape the constituency’s growth.

Hezron Njoroge, in his second term as Riabai’s Member of County Assembly (MCA), claims, “I have what it takes to be a servant of the people, and I know their problems because I interact with them daily.” With 90 percent of Riabai’s roads tarmacked, his grassroots experience strengthens his bid for Kiambu’s MP seat.

Thomas Kimari, known as Gratom Babz, runs a security firm and supports community initiatives like football tournaments. As municipal manager under Governor Ferdinand Waititu, he tarmacked Kiambu Town roads using World Bank funds. Kimari’s community ties and infrastructure contributions position him as a potential MP candidate.

Alex Karundu, CEO of Real Deal T LLC in Dallas, TX, is linked to Seagate, a leading African-owned transportation company. His business expertise could drive economic growth, leveraging Kiambu’s proximity to Nairobi for commercial advancements, making him a notable contender for the 2027 election.

Manuthu Mbugua, from Mburiria village in kiambu town and now US-based, aligns with the Wiper Party under Kalonzo Musyoka. He served Kiambu livestock farmers as a technician in veterinary services and also as an artificial inseminator. His philanthropy, including sponsoring Kiambu community activities, as highlighted on social media, underscores his commitment to local development, fueling his interest in the MP race.

Kiambu’s economy thrives on coffee and dairy farming, but population growth has led to land subdivision, reducing food production. Located 14km from Nairobi, the constituency attracts residential and commercial investments, amplifying its economic significance as candidates address unemployment and growth.

Carved from Kiambaa Constituency in 2013, Kiambu Town remains a political and economic hub. With voters focused on infrastructure, security, and job creation, the 2027 election promises a fierce contest as candidates strive to steer the constituency toward its entitled destination.
