More than 500 people, especially the elderly, received free eye medical check-ups aimed at promoting eye health awareness and providing early detection of vision-related issues.
The medical camp held at Zetech University Mang’u Campus offered services such as vision tests, glaucoma screening, and professional advice on eye care and maintenance. Among the beneficiaries,Faith Muthoni and Favor Wangari expressed deep gratitude for the free services provided by Lions Eye Hospital in partnership with Zetech University. They said the initiative brought much-needed relief to many who had been struggling with eye problems but could not afford proper care.
They also appealed to other donors and organizations to support similar programs, emphasizing the importance of such outreach efforts in bridging healthcare gaps in underserved communities. Speaking during the medical camp, Zetech University Vice Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene thanked Lions Eye Hospital for partnering with the university to help those facing vision challenges. Munene noted that eye problems affect both the elderly and the young and urged Kenyans to treat the elderly with care, dignity, and ensure they live healthy, fulfilling lives.
Maureen Wanjiru, a medical officer from Lions Eye Hospital, said some of the major conditions affecting the elderly include cataracts and complications related to lifestyle diseases such as diabetes. She assured patients that those diagnosed with cataracts or other serious eye conditions would be scheduled for free surgeries at their facility.
