Popular comedian and YouTuber Oga Obinna has made an emotional appeal for calm and kindness following the tragic death of Gengetone artist Shalkido (real name Kelvin Mburu Kinyanjui), who succumbed to injuries from a hit-and-run motorcycle crash on Thika Road on October 6, 2025. Obinna, who played a pivotal role in reviving Shalkido’s music career, urged Kenyans to unite in supporting the late artist’s family and to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Obinna, visibly moved, reflected on the fragility of life, stating, “This is a lesson that life is precious, short, and unpredictable.” He emphasized the importance of kindness, adding, “Kindness will always win,” and suggested that those who were unkind to Shalkido during his struggles might now feel the weight of their actions. “This is not the time to fight each other,” he stressed, calling for unity as the nation mourns the Wamlambez hitmaker.

With significant expenses expected for hospital bills, morgue costs, and funeral arrangements, Obinna cautioned the public against contributing to unverified fundraising appeals circulating on social media. “Cool down the temperatures and wait for official communication,” he advised, warning against “random social media people” seeking likes and views.

Obinna also urged content creators to respect the family’s privacy, stating, “This is not the time to just run and put his family on social media.” While confident that Kenyans would rally to provide a dignified send-off, he clarified that he would not personally handle funeral arrangements, leaving that to a family-appointed representative.

Highlighting the need to support Shalkido’s dependents, Obinna noted, “Shalkido said he had a wife and, I think, two kids. Let’s find out where is the wife? Where are the two kids? What’s happening?” He called for immediate efforts to locate and assist them, ensuring the family’s needs are met during this tragic period.

In a direct challenge to social media commentators, Obinna questioned the moral authority of those now mourning Shalkido online. “What did you do for him, with him, to him, or by him when he was alive?” he asked pointedly. To those who offered no support during Shalkido’s struggles, he was blunt: “If you know you didn’t do s***, shut up.” Obinna urged the public to avoid playing “moral cop” and focus on staying calm and supportive.

Shalkido, 30, was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident on Thika Road between Githurai and Roysambu in the early hours of October 5, 2025, while riding a motorcycle gifted to him by Obinna, Eric Omondi, and Terence Creative. He suffered severe brain injuries and a broken leg, and despite treatment at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH), he was declared brain-dead and passed away on October 6. The police are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run, with no arrests reported as of October 7.

Obinna’s efforts to support Shalkido in the month prior—including securing a furnished bedsitter, household items, and a furniture store ambassadorial deal—had marked a hopeful comeback for the artist. His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes and renewed calls for justice.
