Former Kiambu Governor Dr James Nyoro has lauded media personality Charity Muthoni Wambugu for using journalism and community engagement to champion the rights and welfare of vulnerable people.

Dr Nyoro joined Ms Wambugu, popularly known through her platform as Nyarari Voices, as she marked 10 years in the media and launched the Nyarari Voices Podcast, a new platform aimed at extending her public interest work to a wider audience.

Nyoro described the milestone as a significant achievement, praising Ms Wambugu for dedicating a decade to giving a voice to people who are often left on the margins of society.

“It was a great joy to join my friend Charity Muthoni Wambugu (Nyarari Voices) as she celebrated 10 years in the media and launched the Nyarari Voices Podcast,” Dr Nyoro said.

He said Ms Wambugu’s decade long journey had been characterised by a strong commitment to highlighting the experiences and challenges facing poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society.

For Nyoro, the launch of the podcast represents more than a new chapter in Ms Wambugu’s media career. He said it provides an opportunity to deepen conversations around social welfare, community empowerment and issues affecting ordinary Kenyans.

“For the past decade, Charity has been a passionate voice for the poor, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged,” he said, adding that he admired her commitment to serving others.

The former governor pledged to support what he described as the noble mission behind the initiative, saying platforms that amplify the voices of disadvantaged communities remain important in shaping public discourse and drawing attention to issues that might otherwise be overlooked.

The Nyarari Voices Podcast is expected to provide another avenue through which Ms Wambugu can engage audiences, share community stories and spotlight individuals and groups confronting social and economic challenges.

Nyoro congratulated Ms Wambugu on reaching the 10 year milestone and expressed optimism that the new platform would expand her reach and influence.

“May God continue to bless you, enlarge your impact, and use the Nyarari Voices Podcast to bring hope and transform many lives,” he said.

The former governor’s message comes as digital platforms increasingly become important avenues for public engagement, allowing journalists, community leaders and citizens to tell stories and discuss issues beyond the traditional media space.

For Ms Wambugu, the anniversary therefore marks both a celebration of a decade in media and the beginning of a new phase in her public interest communication work.

The launch of Nyarari Voices Podcast is expected to build on her established focus on people centred stories while creating room for broader conversations on community development, social justice and empowerment.

The 10 year milestone also highlights the growing role of independent community voices in documenting experiences at the grassroots and connecting them with wider public conversations.
