Pomp and colour was witnessed at Mugumo estate in Kiambu during a party to celebrate the retirement of area chief Mr Stephen Maina. Maina, who has attained the 60-year-old retirement age, has served the area for the last 27 years.
On this day chiefs from across Kiambu Sub county and beyond graced the occasion accompanied by local residents giving accolades to the administrator whom they said his record was unmatched. Speaker after speaker they heaped praise on Maina whose unreserved and relentless service to the locals never went unnoticed.
According to Kamiti Anmer Chairman Mr James Kinyanjui, he said he had known Mr Maina for long and they had close working relationship. “Maina has really assisted us in solving the Kamiti Anmer land issue that has been in existence from the early 90’s,” Mr Kinyanjui said.
“We have been able to work hand in hand and resolve disputes and now residents have been able to acquire title deeds,” Mr Kinyanjui continued. On his part, Ting’ang’a MCA Mwaura Napoleon applauded Maina’s role in shaping the County Government’s agenda in the area.
“He is the one(Maina) who helped and identified the naming of these roads you see in Mugumo, from Mugumo drive to many others. I want to tell you that you are retired but not tired to serve our people,” Mr Mwaura quipped.
Speaking during the same event, Ting’ang’a Assistant county commander( ACC) Priscilla Siliti lauded the administrator for his eloquence and understanding of issues facing the community. “If there is one place I don’t need to follow up so much is where Maina represents,” she said.
“He gives us updates timely and we have had confidence in his style of leading this community,” Siliti added. Maina, while speaking, praised his family for the support saying were it not for them he wouldn’t be where he is by now.
He noted that despite his work being challenging, the Government had never let him down. “I want to tell you in broad daylight that there is no one time I’ve ever missed my salary from the Government,” Maina urged.
“Let’s support the Government at whatever means,” Maina continued, calling upon his colleagues to remain united as he had led the way. He reminded them that togetherness was the key to success.
