Kiambu Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka has sought to draw a line between his current constituency responsibilities and the political contest ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying his immediate priority is delivering services and development to residents.
Mr Waithaka said it was not yet time for political campaigns, insisting that he had committed himself to completing development projects in Kiambu Constituency before turning his attention to the political
contest when the time comes.
“It is not time for politicking. I committed to deliver services and development to the people of Kiambu Constituency before embarking on politics when that time comes,” Mr Waithaka said.
The MP made the remarks while inspecting the ongoing extension of the Kasarini–PCEA–Windsor Road in Thindigua, near Feruzzi Tower, where road construction has entered the groundwork phase.
The project is being undertaken by Ocean Creed Contractors, with engineers from the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) supervising the works.
Mr Waithaka said the road was part of efforts to expand the constituency’s urban road network and improve connectivity for residents and businesses in the rapidly growing Thindigua area.
He said that for decades after Independence, Thindigua had lacked a single tarmac road, but that several roads had since been upgraded during his tenure.
“We have been able to tarmac several roads in Thindigua, and we will continue expanding the network until our people get the infrastructure they deserve,” he said.
The ongoing road works, however, have also created challenges for some residents, particularly after water pipes were displaced during preparation of the road.
During the inspection, Mr Waithaka held discussions with the contractor, KURA engineers and Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company officials on how to restore water supplies to affected households.
He said replacement pipes had already been procured and the contractor had been directed to restore the affected water lines.
The intervention is intended to ensure that residents whose supplies were disrupted by the construction works regain access to water as soon as possible.
The development comes as Thindigua continues to experience rapid urbanisation, increasing pressure on roads, water, drainage and other public infrastructure.
Mr Waithaka said infrastructure projects would continue to receive priority, arguing that the benefits of development should reach residents irrespective of political considerations.
He acknowledged that some projects may take time to complete but said the constituency was steadily expanding its road network.
“The progress may be gradual, but we are moving steadily,” he said.
With the 2027 elections approaching, the MP’s remarks signal an attempt to keep the focus of his current political mandate on service delivery and constituency development, while leaving the political contest for a later stage.
For residents of Thindigua, the immediate concern remains the completion of the road and restoration of water services affected by the construction.
Mr Waithaka said he would continue monitoring the project to ensure that both the road works and related remedial measures are completed as planned.
